Ford's Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo was recently recognized as the top-producing U.S. factory. Based on 2011 data gathered by Automotive News, a report in Automobile Magazine reported that Ford’s plant in Claycomo turned out 460,338 vehicles last year. The plant is currently being retooled to make way for production of Ford’s new Transit commercial van. A Ford plant in Dearborn, Mich., earned the second spot while a Hyundai plant in Montgomery, Ala., was third. Ford has other reason to cheer here as well. Ford recently noted major steps to increase sustainability, including 22 percent reduction in energy over the last six years.
