The Kansas City Council recently approved a large soccer complex in Kansas City, North. Located in Platte County west of Platte Purchase Drive and north of Highway 152, the project will likely impact nearby Clay County businesses and more.
Estimated to cost from $36 to $43 million, the project drew debate during COVID-related budget shortfalls, but it’s also expected to bring increased revenues and business with an estimated 70,000 young players and their families visiting the area annually. Featuring 10 soccer fields, the complex will be operated by Sporting KC.
The council approval does not guarantee the project proceeds. Sporting KC must accept the new agreement, which will now include revenue sharing and a longer management arrangement on the Swope Park fields. However, if those conditions are met, the project could be complete by spring 2022
