Look North Event Honors Entrepreneur, Hosts Missouri Leader

Missouri Department of Economic Development Director Rob Dixon addressed the Clay County Economic Development Council Look North – Annual Meeting Oct. 22 in Gladstone’s Linden Square.

EDC members enjoyed a great afternoon at the Look North – Annual Meeting held in Gladstone’s Linden Square Oct. 22. Even the weather cooperated with a beautiful fall evening, despite a cold, rainy forecast.

More than 120 people welcomed guest speaker Rob Dixon, director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development. Dixon’s comments focused on business and job creation as he cited successes like the KC Tech Academy. Development of the Academy into a nationally recognized workforce training center is one of the EDC’s strategic plan Big 4 goals, which Dixon’s office has helped move forward.

A major highlight included presentation of the Look North award to John Miller, Sr. Founder of four iWerx entrepreneurial and maker centers in North Kansas City and Gladstone, Miller’s work represents some of most successful startup development in Greater Kansas City. EDC Chair Greg Canuteson and 2017 Look North recipient and EDC Treasurer Kirk Davis made the presentation.

The event was also a welcome gathering of EDC members who enjoyed Gladstone’s beautiful outdoor setting and refreshments from nearby Stone Canyon Pizza.

The 2020 Look North award went to John Miller, Sr., founder of four iWerx entrepreneurial and maker centers. EDC Chair Greg Canuteson and 2017 Look North recipient and EDC Treasurer Kirk Davis made the presentation Oct. 22 at the annual meeting.
