The Sunflower Development Group will break ground this year on a $49 million, nine-story development in North Kansas City, fulfilling a city plan to promote development of a former municipal parking lot.
The residential development will feature 208 apartments on what has been an approximately 1.4-acre public parking lot in downtown North Kansas City. In late November, Sunflower completed purchase of the public lot, located in the southwest corner of 18th Avenue and Swift Street, as part of the city’s efforts to redevelop the property.
When complete, the development will be located near a rapidly growing entertainment area with several restaurants and businesses like Chicken ‘n Pickle.
Sunflower’s plans include a nine-story building with 208 Class A apartments, 240 structured parking spaces and 3,500 square feet of retail on the ground level. The apartments will include 35 studios and 139 one- and 34 two-bedroom apartments. Prices will range from $950 to $1,750 a month. Penthouse units will be featured on the ninth floor. Other amenities will include a rooftop pool delivering views of the Kansas City skyline.
Groundbreaking is expected by year's end, and apartments are scheduled for residency in the summer of 2022. Development team members include Rosemann & Associates PC as the architect, with Lowery Design Group handling interior design and Olsson providing engineering services.
