Joint Luncheon Set for Sept. 20

The Annual Joint Luncheon of the Clay County Economic Development Council, the Platte County EDC and the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce will be held Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Nominations Sought for Annual Look North Award

The deadline for nominations to the Look North Award is Sept. 16. The annual recognition will be announced at the Oct. 4 annual meeting. Read More.


Recruitment Efforts Show Diverse Opportunities

The EDC continues its active recruitment activities on several fronts. In a recent update, the active projects ranged from a 400,000 s.f. distribution center to an animal food additive company. Read More.


Senator Visits EDC, MSBF Members

Senator Roy Blunt stopped by the EDC offices Aug. 19 for a wide-ranging discussion with members of the EDC and Midwest Small Business Finance boards of directors. Read More.


EDC Affiliate Selected for National Pilot Program

Midwest Small Business Finance has been selected for a SBA national pilot program. Read More.


Briarcliff to Add Retirement Village

The Briarcliff development has announced the addition of a retirement community to its list of offerings. The 170-unit development will include both independent- and assisted-living apartments.

McCrite Plaza Retirement, a Topeka-based senior-care center company, will operate the $19-million, 170-unit retirement community. Groundbreaking is planned for this fall on the 200,000-square-foot senior-care facility south of Missouri Highway 9 and Briarcliff Parkway

The one- and two-bedroom apartments will range from 750 to 1,250 square feet. Features will include hardwood floors, walk-in closets and granite countertops.

Gov. Nixon Cites Clay County Company for International Business

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon visited Continental Disc Corp. in Liberty Aug. 25 to push his Made in Missouri Jobs Package, the subject of a special legislative session.

Scheduled to begin Sept. 6, the special session will include a focus on promoting the state’s strong export economy. Nixon visited Continental Disc in Liberty, which does nearly one-third of its business overseas.

The remainder of 2011 contains three key dates for EDC events:

  • Sept. 20 — Annual Joint Luncheon at the Embassy Suites
  • Oct. 4 — Annual Look North Leadership Dinner with keynote speaker Stephen F. Kingsmore, who joined Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics (CMH) in January to establish a new center that will make genome sequences and information for physicians and patients at CMH
  • Dec. 6 — Keystone Awards Luncheon


  • 20-Year Rate Drops for 504

    SBA 504 Loans saw a drop for the 20-year rate, and for both 10 and 20 years remain an outstanding option for borrowers and bankers.

    The full term effective rates for August are 5.14 percent on the 20 year fixed, and 4.50 percent on a 10-year loan.
