Cities Explore Trolley Crossing of Missouri River

May News Highlights

NKC Leases Its Fiber Network to Google
North Kansas City will lease its LINKCity fiber-optic data network to Google Fiber. In April, the City Council approved a 20-year agreement worth $3.2 million.

Clay Judge Joins Court of Appeals
Clay County Judge Rex Gabbert has been named to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District.  Gov. Jay Nixon selected Gabbert from a list of three finalists to fill the seat of Judge James Smart, who is retiring. In more than 20 years of service, Gabbert has worked as a municipal judge in North Kansas City and as a prosecutor for both Clay County and Gladstone.

Interstate Closing Moves Project Forward
An overnight closing of I-35 in April allowed for a key step in construction of the “Flintlock Flyover,” a major new connection between Interstate 435 and Missouri 152 in Kansas City, North and Liberty. The project is expected to be complete this fall, opening a major new connection for residents separated by I-35 and relieving traffic on two nearby routes, Highway 152 and Pleasant Valley Road.

Northland May See New Community Center
The city of Kansas City is studying the possibility of a new Northland community center. The Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners recently authorized development of a contract to study the need for a new center. Leading locations include Pleasant Valley Park and Anne Garney Park. The area currently has only one existing Kansas City community center, the Kansas City North Community Center at 3930 N.E. Antioch Road.

Area Students Earn Honors
Students from Clay and Platte counties were honored recently at the Greater Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair. Students from Liberty Junior High School, St. Andrew the Apostle School, St. Patrick School, West Platte Junior High School and West Platte High School were among those earning honors.


SBA 504 Rates See Slight Increase

The March rates for SBA 504 loans saw a slight increase over February. The 20-year debenture is 4.30 percent and the 10-year debenture 3.712 percent.
